There are a lot of opinions and narratives out of NFL training camps but the pecking order in the games and reports from the regulars in attendance don’t lie. With preseason games complete and final regular season rosters sets, here is where we are with the biggest open question marks with teams that will be fantasy relevant.

New England Starting QB — Belicheck ended the debate this week by releasing Cam Newton and anointing the rookie Mac Jones as his Tom Brady clone with the starting QB job. Jones was fantastic in the preseason but what did we learn…

2021 fantasy football roster construction season is in full swing. My “home league” is a dynasty auction league format where we hold our annual auction early to increase the level of difficulty. I started a traditional years ago to give my take on the rosters, which is a great way to pass the weeks before the start of the season, and keep up the chatter. For the readers it’s an opportunity to see an example result.

A couple of notes, this is a 12 team, auction ($500 cap), super flex league with no defense. Due to dynasty league there are…

Recommended $ Allocation for an Auction Superflex Fantasy Football League
Superflex Fantasy Football Auction Roster Strategy ($500 Salary Cap)

The fastest growing, most popular fantasy football format is superflex, which allows each team to start a 2nd quarterback in a flex spot. This means the player who handles the ball the most in each game, has real value in fantasy football too. Adding in an auction format, ensures every team has control to get any player they want and build the roster of their dreams.

How does that translate to building a winning roster? Below are guidelines to a superflex, auction based league with a $500 salary cap.

QB’s — The most important and valuable position in all sports…

Trevor Lawrence Is Best QB Prospect Since Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning, John Elway…

The annual rite of reading fantasy football rankings, in search of that important rookie insight into how a new player will fit with their team, teammates, and their potential for the upcoming season is insatiable. At least it is for me. You’ll find dozens, if not hundreds, of credible takes on this but few tackle this for super flex league formats. Super flex is the fastest growing league approach, which are leagues that allow up to 2 starting QB’s (hence Super Flex spot). These league formats are great because it makes the most important position in any sport, valuable in…

The 2021 NFL draft is in the books, and while the 1st round was one for the ages, the 2nd still delivered plenty of fantasy punch.

Here is an overview of the most valuable fantasy relevant NFL draft picks in order of their selection (or in fantasy twitter parlance; Draft Capital) of the 2nd round. The 1st round can be found here.

NYJ — #34 WR Elijah Moore — An underrated, smaller slot-style receiver. Moore has drawn comparisons to Carolina’s great WR Steve Smith. If Moore can live up to that the Jets will be thrilled, and there won’t be…

The 2021 NFL draft is in the books and it was one for the ages. We didn’t have a record 5 QB’s in the first ten picks but we had the highest selected tight end in history (Kyle Pitts), the first 6 picks were skill position players and there were 2 RB’s selected in the 1st round. The fantasy football landscape is flush with fresh toys to contemplate, overvalue and ultimately shift the perceptions of rankings for the upcoming 2021 season.

Here is an overview of the most valuable fantasy relevant NFL draft picks in order of their selection (or…

The 2021 NFL draft promises to be historic.

There will be 5 QB’s selected in the first 10 picks, my not so hot take.

You’ll hear a lot during the draft about the reduced value in the running back position, how this is a deep draft for pass catching talent but that it’s top heavy in studs, including a “once in a generation tight end” prospect in Kyle Pitts. I am hoping there is a surprise development and the first 5 selections are Quarterbacks. …

The 2021 NFL Draft kicks off tomorrow.

What I am looking forward to is seeing where these players land, the situations they find themselves in. Last year at this time I liked Clyde Edwards-Helaire as a rotational back with upside for the future. A day later he was my and just about everybody’s top fantasy rookie landing with Mahomes in Kansas City. Football is the consummate team sport, if you’re not surrounded by talent in the trenches and in play calling, it’s difficult to rise above to perform. It’s possible but the odds are against you. Sam Darnold is the most recent example of this, he’s been…

It’s time to highlight the fantasy football difference makers and best values (from a cost basis). We’ve just hit the mid season point of the actual NFL season but these no longer are just small sample size anomalies.

This is broken into positional sections (QB, RB, WR & TE) by top performers & top values. These are taken exclusively by points scored and value to points scored in a super flex lead (half PPR). For the values section I eliminated players who have played in a minority of games with a low salary given their points/cost ratio aren’t sustainable (e.g. Taysom Hill or Nick Mullens are off the charts but they are anomalies due to short stints or being gadget players). Also note I did not include the contract values for many of the “Studs” since many were…

It is an annual rite of passage to pass judgement a quarter of the season in. This is about making lists and calling out those who are not living up to the standard we expected of them, who is leading us to glory, who has emerged and which rookie is stepping up.

Will some of these breakouts turn into duds by the end of this season? Of course, injuries or defensive game planning insights will turn the fortunes of some but we’re far enough in to see trends. Let’s not forget 4 NFL games is approximately a third of the…
